Hoth (passed away)

Hoth (passed away)

Update 28.2.2026:

Volunteers and caretakers were gutted today.

Today we lost Hoth, a handsome little boy whose body malfunctioned.

Hoth was only six months old.

It began when one of our volunteers noticed he was not very energetic.

In a matter of a day or two, his back legs struggled to pick up his body. He was rushed to the vet where tests were done. But no real conclusion.

The day after that, his front leg gave out.

The vet then remembered an old case where he had seen this before. He tested the animal for leishmania. We don’t usually test animals for leishmania at six months but he was certain we would get a reading, and we did. And it was very high.

Hoth was given cortisone, very little though, to alleviate the inflammation in his joints. It helped him and we became optimistic seeing him move.

But the very next day his lymph nodes swelled to the size of golf balls and his poo was filled with blood.

The animal had an auto immune issue and no system to fight the parasite at all even though we started him immediately on a therapy, with the doctor’s supervision.

His prognosis was very bad and his progress was going downhill very rapidly.

We had to make the terrible decision to let him go, to relieve him of his pain and extreme suffering.

It is moments like this that really hurt.

I thank my team for giving him such good care and love, but he was just a baby and we, well we are having a very hard time accepting this loss.

Rest easy now, Hoth.

His story:

World, welcome our Junkyard pups!

Welcome Hoth, Kamina, Endor, Naboo and Navarro. Aren’t they sweet?

Elizabeth never had the chance to formally introduce you to these babies, a lot of babies were being admitted to the shelter at that time.

These five little guys were abandoned up the block from us at the junkyard. The folks working there could not host them so we took them in.

Please consider adopting one of our babies!

They are all healthy and happy and will soon be ready to be rehomed!
