Update 25.2.2025:

Octavia – Geboren im Oktober 2020. Wie kann dieser Hund mit seinem fröhlichen und freundlichen Lächeln ein Sorgenfell sein, fragt Ihr Euch? Die Antwort ist einfach: Sie lautet Leishmaniose positiv. Octavia kam 2021 als zartes Welpenmädchen im Alter von nur drei Monaten gemeinsam mit ihren zwei Brüdern und ihrer Schwester zu uns ins Tierheim. Dort wuchsen die Geschwister zunächst einige Monate zusammen auf.

Der erste, bei dem die Leishmaniose diagnostiziert wurde, war ihr Bruder Seth. Doch Seth hatte Glück: Seine Pflegestelle entschied sich, ihn trotz der Diagnose zu übernehmen, und so durfte er ausreisen.

Als Nächste erhielt Octavia die Diagnose. Auch sie hatte bereits feste Interessenten, doch als ihr Testergebnis positiv ausfiel, wurde die Adoption zurückgezogen. Die verschmuste und freundliche junge Hündin hatte immer wieder Interessenten, aber der Stempel Leishmaniose schien zu stark aufgedrückt.

Am Ende scheiterte es jedes Mal. Octavia bindet sich stark an ihre Menschen und Hundekumpels. Sie bevorzugt wenige enge Bindungen statt ständig wechselnder Kontakte.

Daher ist es für Octavia besonders schwer, wenn sie über die Jahre immer wieder miterleben muss, wie ihre engen Gefährten in ihr Für-Immer-Zuhause ziehen und von einem Moment auf den anderen verschwinden.

Jedes Mal trauert sie furchtbar, was uns immer wieder das Herz bricht. Abgesehen von ihrer Leishmaniose, die bisher symptomfrei verläuft, ist Octavia eine absolut großartige, freundliche und verschmuste Hundedame. Sie liebt es, mit ihren Hundekumpels Fangen zu spielen, zu buddeln, zu planschen oder einfach nur auf dem Schoß der Volontäre zu kuscheln und sich stundenlang kraulen zu lassen.

Vor wenigen Wochen durfte mit Orelle auch ihr letztes verbliebenes Geschwisterchen in eine liebevolle Familie ziehen. Jetzt wünschen wir uns von Herzen, dass es endlich auch für Octavia klappt.

Wir suchen für sie nun Menschen, die sich von der Diagnose Leishmaniose positiv nicht abschrecken lassen und bereit sind, unserer tollen Hundedame ihren Herzenswunsch zu erfüllen: Ein eigenes Zuhause mit einer liebevollen Familie.

OCTAVIA, oh Octavia I’m out of words to tell everyone how great you are. I’m out of words to apologize to you too. You don’t understand why all your friends keep leaving you behind. I wish I could tell you it’s not your fault!

Octavia is still waiting for her furever home. Unfortuneatley Octavia is Leishmania positive. Of course, she gets her medication. Here you can read about Leishmania. This desease is only transported via a sandfly.

Octavia is a smart and sweet girl, born in October 2020. She is one of four siblings, Orelle, Seth and Scout. Seth and Orelle are known to be the stronger personalities of the group, while Scout and Octavia are the more gentle and affectionate ones, who love to cuddle and give kisses all day long. Despite her positive Leishmania diagnosis, Octavia is a playful and loving companion who loves people. She is a great companion for those who are looking for a smart and affectionate dog. Octavia, Orelle, Seth and Scout have the same Leishmania condition and will require a stress-free environment. They also need a specific treatment plan to manage their condition, but with proper care, they can live happy and healthy lives.

Dogs with Leishmania may face some challenges, but they are still loving and loyal companions who deserve a loving home. Leishmania is a parasitic infection that can affect a dog’s immune system and cause fatigue, weight loss, and skin issues such as hair loss, sores and thickened skin. These dogs may require a bit more patience, understanding, and specialized care but they are just as deserving of love and affection as any other dog.

They may require a stress-free environment. They may also need a specific treatment plan to manage their condition, which could include medication such as allopurinol, miltefosine, or other immunomodulators to manage symptoms and prevent progression of the disease. With proper care, they can live happy and healthy lives.

However, it’s important to note that the prognosis for dogs with Leishmania can vary depending on the severity of the infection and the response to treatment. In some cases, the disease may progress and lead to severe organ damage and even death, despite treatment. Adopting a dog with Leishmania means to open your home and heart to a loving companion who will return that love tenfold.
