Update  22.8.2021:

She was with us for over seven years.
She saw the shelter go from a hoarder’s hell hole to a fun, peaceful, loving place.
She finally left, with the help of Bianca , a darling woman who helps get our dogs out who don’t really stand a chance. The videos and photos Bianca sent us were heartwarming and so joyous.
Bianca found her a loving home after only a few weeks with her.
She lived at her new home for only three weeks.
Then she was infected in Holland with (we believe but no certain diagnosis was made), Leptospirosis and last night she died.
Xania was our little sausage, our dancing princess, our shy but happy girl.
We are devastated, deeply hurt and feel so cheated.
We are happy that she had the chance to enjoy the Dutch grass, to live in a house with a roof over her head and to feel the personal love of a human, one on one.

Xania was fully vaccinated BUT Leptospirosis comes in many strains.

The common booster that we give our animals yearly is not enough sometimes. This time.

Please talk to your veterinarian about this. And if you can, supplement your animal’s vaccine schedule with an extra Leptospirosis vaccine containing many strains of the virus.
This virus is transferred through rat urine.

We are sorry Xania that your time in your new life was so short.
You will always be our tiny dancer, pitter patting your little front paws with joy.
Big thank you to the lovely woman, Ria , who adopted her, gave this older girl a chance, owned her for only three weeks and gave her the best possible care till the end.

NOW in foster!

❤️Xania❤️

Her story:

Description:

Life in the shelter can be hard for some dogs. So they often develop strategies to cope with day to day life. One of those strategies is keeping a low profile which Xania has adopted.  She rarely barks, doesn’t get overexcited and stays calm. (She also loves eating, as you can see…)

(Osgood and Xania, January 2020)

This coping strategy is hiding her true personality but we do know she is a loving, caring and sweet girl. She needs a loving home to blossom. You will be surprised by how much joy she could bring.
